Preggo Update

16 weeks

ok so I definitely have not done as good of a job this time around taking pictures. I think this is my first one!!...I will be 16 weeks tomorrow. Feeling great! I have been a little more nauseous this time around for whatever reason that may be. We are thinking it could possibly be because my vitamins are much more absorbable than what I took in my first pregnancy and require me to pay more attention to eating lots of high protein foods around the time of taking them.
(Don't be fooled, I took this picture first thing this morning and by the end of the day my belly bulges out a lot more)... :)

Exciting things...I started feeling a little movement in there last week! And I have been sleeping a little better. Still having weird dreams and getting up to pee pretty often, but not as much as I did in the first trimester. That makes for longer stretches of good sleep. :)

Differences from last pregnancy...besides feeling a little more nauseous here and there, my hips have not hurt as much while sleeping on my sides and I have not gained as much weight so far. I think I am up about 7 pounds. That is a good thing because I gained A LOT my first time. :) I have felt much more irritated and emotional in this pregnancy. Some of that could be because I am nursing Will which has created challenges...(pregnant and breastfeeding post soon to come.)Feeling much better since I am still running and lifting weights like normal. Unfortunately I feel like I ate horrible in the first trimester, but in the last few weeks have finally consistently wanted what I know my body needs. I have a new favorite protein packed shake that I like to drink in the morning that really gets me going; my own concoction we will call it the Morning Mama Muscle... :)

1 Tbsp. hemp seeds
2 Tbsp. walnut pieces
1 banana
handful of frozen pineapple
splash of orange juice

This shake is soo yummy and has approx. 15 g protein in just a small 12 oz. glass!!! I bought the raw protein powder when I first found out I was pregnant to get an extra boost, but I could not figure out how to use it because any smoothie I blended it in just tasted nasty. So i decided to use orange juice instead of water to add extra flavor and I also only use about half or a third of the amount suggested for a serving and added other protein packed foods instead. I could use the suggested amout of protein powder for higher protein content, but this works for me because taste matters. :)

We have decided on a midwife to use for birth and we absolutely love her! She is so knowledgeable and has taken extra time to get to know us. I feel really privileged since most of you know I am planning to have this baby naturally after my first being a c-section. I am not brave enough to do that in the hospital and if possible would like to stay away from the hospital so this midwife was my only chance for she is the only midwife in the area who will do a VBAC at home. I am sooo thankful for her!! I have had a few appointments with her, mainly to hear the heartbeat (high 150's-low 160's), get to know each other and make sure everything is going ok. Everything seems great so far and I look forward to meeting with her this Friday again. humm....seems like that's about it for now. I just want to record everything like I did with Will. Peace.

Can't wait to hear about your experiences breastfeeding while pregnant. I have a feeling Lauren will still be nursing when we decide to get pregnant again...my husband is hoping that weans her but I have a feeling she will be my little nursling that will nurse forever if I would let her.

And...you look so cute!! Keep us updated with the midwife! I don't know if I am 'brave' enough to do a home birth but I definitely do not want to be tempted/coerced into "hospital ways".
